THIS PROGRAM IS DESIGNED TO SERVE THE COMMUNITY BY OFFERING THESE SERVICES TO LOW INCOME PERSONS. THERE WAS A NEED FOR PROVIDING ACCESS TO THE LOW INCOME GROUPS AND NOTHING WAS AVAILABLE TO THOSE WHO WERE IN NEED OF MEALS AND LODGING DURING A HOSPITAL STAY. THE HOSPITAL PROVIDES FOOD AND SHELTER TO THOSE WHO ARE IN AN UNEXPECTED SITUATION WHERE A FAMILY MEMBER OR LOVED ONE IS HOSPITALIZED.THE HOSPITAL SUPPORTS FAMILIES IN THE COMMUNITY THROUGH ITS SUPPORT OF PIONEER RELIEF NURSERY. SAH PROVIDES SUPPLIES, UTILITIES AND FREE SPACE FOR PIONEER RELIEF NURSERY. THE NURSERY PROVIDES RESPITE CHILDCARE AND TRAINING TO PARENTS WHO HAVE CHALLENGES WITH CHILDCARE; WHICH IS A CHRONIC UNMET NEED. ITS GOAL IS TO PREVENT CHILD ABUSE AND NEGLECT IN UMATILLA COUNTY THROUGH INTENSIVE FAMILY SUPPORT. THEY ADDRESS THE CYCLE OF CHILD ABUSE AND NEGLECT BY PROVIDING THERAPEUTIC EARLY CHILDHOOD CLASSROOMS, PARENTING EDUCATION, PLANNED RESPITE AND COMPREHENSIVE FAMILY SUPPORT. HOSPITAL COMMUNITY BOARDS (OR THEIR DESIGNATED COMMUNITY HEALTH OR COMMUNITY BENEFIT COMMITTEES) ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR ENSURING THAT THE HOSPITALS CONDUCT AND ADOPT COMMUNITY HEALTH NEEDS ASSESSMENTS AND IMPLEMENTATION STRATEGIES, TAKE ACTIONS TO HELP ADDRESS IDENTIFIED SIGNIFICANT HEALTH NEEDS WITH AN EMPHASIS ON POOR AND VULNERABLE POPULATIONS AND HEALTH EQUITY, AND MONITORING ACTIONS AND PROGRESS TOWARD IDENTIFIED GOALS.

FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE AND COMMUNITY BENEFIT TOTALED MORE THAN $4.89 BILLION WITH THE INCLUSION OF THE UNPAID COSTS OF MEDICARE.
