MEDICAL STAFF PRIVILEGES ARE OPEN TO PHYSICIANS WHOSE EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING ARE VERIFIED THROUGH A CREDENTIALING PROCESS. TO COMBAT THIS PROBLEM AND IMPROVE ACCESS TO MEDICAL CARE IN THE REGION, TANNER CONTINUED ITS WORK TO RECRUIT MORE PHYSICIANS TO PRACTICE IN THE AREA, ENABLING PATIENTS TO CHOOSE FROM A GREATER NUMBER OF PROVIDERS IN AN EXPANDED FIELD OF SPECIALTIES. DURING FISCAL YEAR 2018, TANNER WELCOMED 12 NEW PHYSICIANS AND 8 ADVANCED PRACTICE PROVIDERS TO ITS MEDICAL STAFF. TANNER ALSO PROVIDED ""FUTURE OF HEALTH CARE"" SCHOLARSHIPS TO STUDENTS FROM ACROSS THE REGION THAT ARE ENROLLED IN MEDICAL SCHOOL OR ADVANCED PRACTICE PROVIDER PROGRAMS, AND ALSO OFFERED CLINICAL EDUCATIONAL OPPORTUNITIES FOR NURSING STUDENTS AT THE UNIVERSITY OF WEST GEORGIA AND WEST GEORGIA TECHNICAL COLLEGE THROUGHOUT THE HEALTH SYSTEM'S HOSPITALS AND CLINICS. TANNER MEDICAL CENTER/EAST ALABAMA OPENED IN NOVEMBER 2017, SERVING AS A REPLACEMENT HOSPITAL FOR WEDOWEE HOSPITAL. THIS FACILITY WILL ENSURE THE HEALTH NEEDS OF THIS REGION ARE MET FOR YEARS TO COME.
